KEY PERSON BIOGRAPHY – NICK LIGHT

A Qualified Mechanical Engineer, Nick spent his first three years of Industrial experience in field service operations as a site superintendent for an international supplier of fully automated tailor-made material handling systems in numerous industries. Hands on valuable experience in both mechanical and electrical installation works as well as using software automation provided an in-depth knowledge of how the systems functioned. Assignments throughout the United Kingdom and Europe were undertaken for leading blue chip FMCG companies such as Birds Eye Walls, Bowater Scott, Kellogg’s and Proctor & Gamble.

In 1987 Nick joined a UK stainless steel conveyor manufacturing company as a project engineer. Undertaking layout designs and engineering solutions for multiple container and packaging handling systems were key parts of the role together with preparation of corresponding proposals for client consideration. In 1989, appointed as the company technical manager, responsibility expanded to overseeing the operations and functions of the company’s projects, contracts and engineering departments. Additionally providing technical support to the sales department for client interfaces, presentations and after sales field support.

Promoted to the role of Sales Director at the age of 30 in 1994, Nick led a very successful sales team that significantly expanded the company’s manufacturing turnover. This included both United Kingdom and International sales of sizeable projects to multiple high-profile clients such as Britvic, Campbell Soups, C&C Group Ireland, Coca Cola & Schweppes, Glaxo Smithkline, Pepsi International & Unilever to name but a few.

In 1996 Nick joined a UK based international consultancy practice in a shareholding technical director role. The company specialised in providing engineering, design and project management consultancy services to multiple food and beverage industry clients on a global basis. Extensive international travel to many parts of the world resulted in delivering support for both Greenfield and Brownfield capital expenditure projects. On many occasions Nick developed unique bespoke technical solutions for manufacturing factory facilities and established a special rapport with many of the industry leading original equipment manufacturers.

The consultancy practice enjoyed an unparalleled relationship with the PepsiCo company and its franchise partners throughout the international food and beverage operations. Projects were executed for PepsiCo concentrate facilities, Pepsi’s range of soft drink bottling and canning plants, Frito-Lay snack foods, Gatorade sports drinks and Tropicana fruit juices. Independently the consultancy undertook other significant capital investment programmes for other key clients in the FMCG market sectors and included the likes of American Bottling Company (Dr Pepper & 7UP bottler), Ballygowan water, Bulmers/Magners of Ireland cider facility, Fuller Smith & Turner brewery in the UK & Grants of Ireland Spirit bottling operation.

In 2013, having already been intimately involved on front end project design activities, Nick was seconded as the Project Director to a PepsiCo franchise bottler operation in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia where a Mega Plant soft drink facility was just commencing construction. This factory was reputed to be the largest single capacity global soft drinks facility. The Project Director had overall responsibility for the $600+ Million dollar expense which included construction & site development works, processing equipment, filling & packaging lines, utility support infrastructure, automated high bay warehouse, laser guided handing vehicles & auto truck loading systems. The facility went live and commenced first production in January 2017.

In Q3 2017 the engineering consultancy practice of which Nick was a partner ceased trading after 40+ years in business since the early 1970’s, following a members voluntary liquidation by the shareholdings of the company. Having spent nearly 5 years of excessive and prolonged durations of international travel this break afforded Nick some much needed quality rest and recuperation time at home with his family.
